I’ve been asked very regularly to feature my favourite food spots in each county from all my travelling around Ireland. Being a Cavan man I thought I’d do the easy one first. What are your favourite food spots? Leave me a comment and let me know

1. Slieve Russell Hotel

Only 5 minutes away from us. If you have an occasion the Slieve Russell is the spot to be. It’s not just the food but the incredible Hotel itself. The walk around the golf course, the friendly staff and if your lucky enough to attend a wedding make sure you make the most of what this hotel has to offer. With 3 restaurants in the Hotel you are spoiled for choice. A favourite of mine being the roast Thornhill duck on the a-la-carte-menu.

2. Chapter 1- Cafe

If your looking for that perfect lunch or coffee then you’ve found the right place. Chapter 1 has a great selection on its menu. Anything from bagels, toasted sandwiches, wraps and if your in a good mood have a dessert too. I love the old style Churchill crockery and plates that you get your food and coffee on. The special pizza bagel is well worth checking out.

3. Anglers Rest Ballyconnell

If your looking for some good quality bar food then you’ve found the right spot. The place seems to be always hopping which creates a lovely atmosphere. A great selection of craft beers and incredible cocktails made to order. The staff are young and have a sort of trendy vibe which I like. If you are to order anything, have the steak (medium of course). A regular steak for me and the lads while catching up on the football.

4.The Old Post Inn

A gorgeous fine dining restaurant based in Cloverhill. Up with some of the best in the country. The Chef Gearoid Lynch is a coeliac himself. So his menu adapts nicely for coeliacs with no compromise on taste. He works alongside his brother Gareth who lectures in South West College Enniskellen.

5. O’ Leary’s Cootehill

If I’m passing I’ll always call in. Possibly my favourite artisan food store in Ireland. The staff are passionate about food and love showing the customers new ideas. Well worth stopping for a coffee or trying their house made flavoured wines. I’m a sucker for the meadow sweet kiss white wine.

6. Mac Nean Restaurant

I’m being very biased since I worked here for 6 years. But incredible food. If you are up for some fine dining Mac Nean is the spot to go. The consistency of the food is fantastic. Make sure you go starving.

7. The Masons Apron

Gorgeous homemade breads, baked goods and cakes in Virginia. Staff are lovely. If you’re looking for a breakfast on your travels stop off here or even some afternoon tea.

8. POL O’ D

Great staff and food. The lamb is to die for. If you are a vegetarian you are in for a treat. Such a treat this restaurant is.

9. Cabra Castle

I’ve been lucky enough to attend several family weddings here. Just outside of Kingscourt and such an amazing treat. A magnificent castle setting with great food. Well worth a try.

10. Sage Cafe

Another great cafe in Cavan town. Serving everything from Pies, Tarts, Soups, Sandwiches, Salads etc. If you are to order something, have a try of their selection of wraps.
